Yes-No attribute in The Raiser's Edge not marked as required adds to Online Express form as required

Online Express forms have gift (donation forms) and gift and participant (event forms) attribute options to allow customized information to be collected from the form visitor. However, when an attribute is created as a Yes-No data type (marked active and not marked required) in The Raiser's Edge, the attribute appears on the Online Express form with the required option grayed out.

On a donation or event form:

On an event form:

In The Raiser's Edge, a Yes/No attribute must be Yes or No on a record. It cannot be saved as a blank (no value). Likewise on Online Express form, a Yes/No attribute will be Yes or No and cannot be blank. Since data will be present on this attribute, the attribute is then technically required.

If the option to select or not select a form attribute as required is desired, create an attribute using a Table data type as follows:
  1. In The Raiser's Edge, create a gift or participant attribute with a Table data type. Create a new table with the attribute.
  2. Go to Config > Tables and find the table created in step 1.
  3. Click New Table Entry in upper left.
  4. Enter description of Yes.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click New Table Entry in upper left.
  7. Enter description of No.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Return to Online Express. Start a new donation form  (gift attribute) or event form (gift or participant attribute) form, or open an existing one to add the attribute:
To add the the gift attribute on a donation or event form:
    • Click on the Extras tab.
    • Scroll down to Select which gift attributes are available.
    • Click Add attribute.
    • Search for attribute created in steps 1 through 8.
    • Mark Require to require form visitors to complete the attribute. Leave Require unmarked if it is optional to complete.
