Error: The specified transaction's merchant account is different from the merchant account of this fundraiser. - When changing the soft credit on a gift

I have a participant that registered for the wrong event and I need to transfer them to a new event. I have followed the instructions in to move a TeamRaiser Registration from one TeamRaiser to another. When I get to step 4 and try to change the soft credit, I get this error:
Error: The specified transaction's merchant account is different from the merchant account of this fundraiser. Transactions can only be reassigned if they are within the same merchant account.

What do I do now?
If your organization has multiple merchant accounts, there is a possibility that your TeamRaiser events use different merchant accounts. A participant's registration and gifts cannot be transferred from one TeamRaiser to another when the events do not have the same merchant account.

In this case, in order to move the registration from one event to another, you will need to
  1. Refund the original registration fee. Make sure not to refund to the Credit Card. Instead, choose the "No, the donor has already been reimbursed or will be reimbursed offline. Just record the refund in the Convio database." option.
  2. Offline register the participant for the correct event, selecting Cash as the payment option
  3. Contact Support to convert this donation to a registration fee (be sure to have the new TeamRaiser ID, transaction confirmation number, and registration fee amount ready)
To move any gifts, you will want to:
  1. Search for the donor's profile in Constituent360
  2. Refund the transaction, making sure to choose the "No, the donor has already been reimbursed or will be reimbursed offline. Just record the refund in the Convio database." option.
  3. Enter the gifts as offline cash donation to the participant
