Error: General ODBC Error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user [user] Native error: 18456 when running the Supervisor Password Reset Utility

The Supervisor Password Reset Utility resets the Supervisor password if it is misplaced or forgotten.  Sometimes when running this utility, the following error can occur:

Error: General ODBC Error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user [Domain\user] Native error: 18456 .
 

We are currently evaluating this issue and will update this article when we have more information.

Alternative Solutions:

  1. Run the Supervisor Password Reset Utility on the Blackbaud Management Console server while logged on with Windows account that has local administrator rights
  1. If using a full version of SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2014, ensure that you are logged onto the computer or server with a Windows account that has at least db_owner rights to The Raiser's Edge database.  (NOTE: Please contact the appropriate software vendor or IT professional for assistance with this process or issue, which is beyond Blackbaud's scope of support.)
