Error: Manual and Scheduled backups fail when using SQL Server 2008 R2 Express on a Windows 10 standalone installation

When using Windows 10 as a standalone installation and SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, manual or scheduled backups may return a status of "Unknown" or "Fail" and do not complete.
We are currently evaluating this issue and will update this article when we have more information.

Alternative Solution:
  1. Configure your scheduled or manual backup within the Blackbaud Management Console.
  2. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackbaud\Management Console\
  3. Right-click on the appropriate CMD file and and select 'Run as administrator',  NOTE: A DOS window will open, do not close this window.  This is your notification that your backup is running.  The window will close automatically when the backup has completed.
Examples of what the appropriate CMD file may look like:
If the name of your database that you are backing up is "RE7" in the Blackbaud Management Console and you are attempting to perform a manual backup, then the file name would be "RE7_ManualBackup.cmd"
If the name of your database that you are backing up is "RE7" in the Blackbaud Management Console and you are attempting to perform a scheduled backup, then the file name would be "RE7_ScheduledBackup.cmd"

Environment

 Windows 10 (64-bit)
 SQL Server 2008 R2 Express
