NOTE: Please verify the version of your Raiser's Edge software. The way phones and emails are recorded is different as of The Raiser's Edge 7.94.

In The Raiser's Edge 7.94 and higher

The way that phones/emails are stored in The Raiser's Edge is different as of The Raiser's Edge 7.94. They are no longer stored on addresses but as their own constituent fields, like name fields. If you have a query or export created prior to your update to The Raiser's Edge 7.94 or 7.95, you may still see the field of Preferred Phone Number in its output. This refers to the prior way phones and emails are stored, in this case, a phone number/email from the Preferred Address. These saved queries will continue to function as before. However, it is not possible to find the "preferred address phone number" field again in a new query.

However, another possible scenario is that your Raiser's Edge may have phone types named Preferred Email or Preferred Phone. Please review the steps below to locate phone fields to see if this may be the case in your Raiser's Edge.

In a constituent Query to list any phone:
  1. Click on + beside Phones.
  2. Double-click on Phone Number to select any phone or email on the constituent record.

In a constituent Query to list a phone with a phone type containing "Preferred" (or a specific phone type):
  1. Click on + beside Phones.
  2. Scroll down to +Specific Phones and click on the +.
  3. Scroll down to the desired type and click on the + beside it. For example, +Preferred Phone or +Preferred Email
  4. Double click field containing "Number" to add that specific value.

In a constituent Export to export any phone:
  1. Scroll down to +Phones and click on the +.
  2. Double click on Phone number.
  3. Enter the desired number and types to export. Click OK.
  4. Add any additional fields desired, such as Phone Type.
In a constituent Export to export a phone with a phone type containing "Preferred" (or a specific phone type):


In The Raiser's Edge 7.93 and earlier

A "Preferred email" or "Preferred phone" is recorded in The Raiser's Edge 7.93 and earlier can refer to a phone/email recorded in one of two scenarios:
  • An email or phone stored on the Preferred Address
  • A phone with the type of Preferred Phone or an email with the type of Preferred Email

In a constituent Query to list any phone from the Preferred Address:
  1. Click on + beside Addresses.
  2. Then on + beside Preferred Address.
  3. Scroll down to +Preferred Phones and click on the +.
  4. Double click on Preferred Phone Number to select any phone or email on the Preferred Address.

In a constituent Query to list a phone with a phone type containing "Preferred" (or a specific phone type):
  1. Click on + beside Addresses.
  2. Then on + beside Preferred Address.
  3. Scroll down to +Preferred Phones and click on the +.
  4. Scroll down to +Preferred Specific Phones and click on the +.
  5. Scroll down to the specific type, such as "Preferred Phone" or "Preferred Email", and click on the + beside it.
  6. Double click on the field name with Number in it to add the specific field.

In a constituent Export to export any phone:
  1. Click on +Address and click on the +.
  2. Then on the + beside +Preferred Address.
  3. Scroll down to +Phones and click on the +.
  4. Double click on Phone Number.
  5. Enter the desired number and types to export. Click OK.
  6. Add any additional fields desired, such as Phone Type.

In a constituent Export to export a phone with a phone type containing "Preferred" (or a specific phone type):
