This is likely caused by no news content categories being selected in the News Archive page settings. If no stories load even after hitting refresh, then the issue may be caused by there being no published news stories in the current year.

To set the news categories, locate News Archive Detail (usually under Landing Pages).
onMessage > Website > Choose website > Landing pages. To edit the news categories do the following:
  1. Click on wrench
  2. Select settings
  3. Select categories
  4. Save & Close
