1. Empty user and system "temp" folders.
  • Empty "%systemdrive%\temp" folder.
  • Empty "%systemdrive%\%windir%\temp" folder.
  • Empty "%systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp".

2. Check if there pending installation/s in the registry.

Warning: You should only edit these registry entries if you really know what you're doing. Back up your hard disk first.
Note: Modifying REGISTRY settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of REGISTRY settings can be solved. Modifications of these settings are at your own risk.

Go to the Start button, and in the Start Search box, type in Regedit. 


a. Empty InProgress Registry Key. Scroll to and check the following registry key:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress

and clean any entries that you find.
 
b. Empty/Rename PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Key: Scroll to and check the following registry key:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations

and clean any entries that you find.
