While entering a membership payment for a constituent with an existing membership you may notice that Altru has created a duplicate membership payment for that constituent. The duplicate membership will have the default payment method of Check with no other information entered on the payment

Steps to Duplicate
Go to a constituent's record that has a membership
Click add membership
In the what are they paying for section choose renew membership
In the How are they paying section choose the payment method and enter the corresponding information
