When working within GIFTS on a Windows 7 workstation, it is common for multiple windows to be open - first, the Organizer window may be open, then a record from within the Organizer may be open in a smaller window, then the Coding Sheet may be open in a smaller window and the Codes Listing in a smaller window than that. On some occasions, users find that some of these windows go "missing" as they work within records and they cannot take normal action because of this supposed limitation.
The reason for these "missing" windows is primarily due to users moving from one workstation with a large monitor to another workstation with a smaller monitor. GIFTS stores the location of the windows on the screen as coordinates on a grid - therefore, if that location on the large monitor was at the edge of the screen, the same window may not be visible on a workstation with a smaller monitor.
To correct this, the window must be moved to within the confines of the smaller monitor. On a Windows 7 workstation, the easiest method to do this is to take the following steps:
1. At the same time, hold the Shift key and Right-click the mouse on the program in the toolbar. 2. From the menu that appears, select "Move". 3. Once you have done so, the cursor should change shape to a four-pointed arrow > Use the arrow keys to move the window back into the visible area of the monitor.
