When you analyze the effectiveness of a Fund, Campaign, or Approach, you may want to see how many donors in your database gave for the first time to that Fund, Campaign, or Approach. We need to create two queries to find this information.

First, we'll create a query that finds everyone's first donation
  1. Click Queries
  2. Click Manage Queries
  3. Select the category where you would like to store this query
  4. Select New Query under the Tasks menu
  5. Name the query First Donations
  6. Set the Starting Query to Base/All Constituents
  7. Set the Data Return Type to Journal Entries
  8. Under Criteria Matching select Match Each Criteria
  9. Select Dates from the Browse Fields drop down menu and click on First/Last Entry
  10. Select First from the first drop down menu and 1 from the second drop down menu
  11. Click Save and View Queries

Then, we'll create another query to find the first entries that were to the specified Fund, Campaign, or Approach
  1. Select New Query under the Tasks menu
  2. Name the query First Time Donations to [insert Fund, Campaign, or Approach name]
  3. Set the Starting Query to the First Donations query that we created with the steps listed above
  4. Set the Data Return Type to Journal Entries
  5. Under Criteria Matching select Match Each Criteria
  6. Select Commonly Used Fields from the Browse Fields drop down menu and click on Fund, Campaign, or Approach
  7. Mark the checkbox(es) that corresponds to the specific Fund, Campaign, or Approach that you'd like to search
  8. Click Save and Preview
