Blackbaud NetCommunity 7.1 changes the way that passwords are encrypted. As a result, it is possible for an Education Edge record to exist showing as linked to the Blackbaud NetCommunity user account but the password field is blank on the record. This can occur in the following scenarios where the username already exists in Blackbaud NetCommunity prior to being linked to the Education Edge record:
  1. The username is created in Blackbaud NetCommunity in order to complete an Online Admissions Form.
  2. The username already exists in Blackbaud NetCommunity when running the Add Users Utility.
In these scenarios, because the username/password combination already is encrypted in the Blackbaud NetCommunity database, the password cannot be pushed to The Education Edge record. The user will still be able to log into Blackbaud NetCommunity with the username/password combination that he or she specified when registering but will not be able to log into NetClassroom or FAWeb as long as the password remains blank on the record. In order to resolve the blank password on the record, follow one of the methods outlined below:

Method 1: Instruct user to reset their password in Blackbaud NetCommunity. This can be done through the User Login or Change User ID/Password parts.

Method 2: Reset the password for the user through the administrative backend following these steps:
  1. Log into Blackbaud NetCommunity with a supervisor level user.
  2. Navigate to Users & security > Users.
  3. In the Field by login field, type the username.
  4. Press Filter.
  5. Click the pencil icon next to the username.
  6. In the Change Password field, type in a new password and then confirm the password in the field below.
  7. Press Save.
After following one of the two methods above, we should now see the password on the record in The Education Edge.
