To configure your ask ladder:
  1. Go to Marketing and Communications
  2. Under Configuration, click Ask Ladders
  3. Click Add to Add a new Ask Ladder.
  4.  When adding a new Ask Ladder, the first step is to name your Ask Ladder in the Name field.
  5.  In the Amount field, choose the “entry amount” for the Ask Ladder. The entry amount defines the calculations for the ask amounts based on constituent’s giving history. You can choose amounts such as latest gift, first gift, largest gift, smallest gift or average gift. Smart Fields help us to determine the entry amounts for each constituent. In the example below, we are using Average Gift Amount, but you can use any Amount Smart Field (for example: I need to pull a report that shows all donors who donated a cumulative amount for a certain time period, I need to find a constituent's first or last gift amount, etc.). To read more about adding smart fields, see our Smart Fields guide here. Note: To add an Ask Ladder with the same suggested ask for all constituents, select <none> from the drop down. User-added image
  6. Under Definition, enter the parameters for ask ladder calculations:
    1. Under Amounts at or above, enter the lowest entry amount for each range. For example, if you enter $0, $25, and $50 in the Amounts at or above column:                        User-added image
      1. $0.00 – Constituents with an average gift value between $0 to $24.99 will be assigned this ask ladder. Note: To ensure that each constituent receives an ask ladder, we recommend that you use $0 as the first value in this column
      2. $25.00 – Constituents with an average gift value between $25 to $49.00 will be assigned this ask ladder.
      3. $50.00 – Constituents with an average gift value over $50 will be assigned this ask ladder.
    2. Under Type, specify how you would like Altru to calculate the ask ladder. In the Ask columns, specify the values for the calculation specified under Type:
      1. Fixed – Select this option to use values entered in the Ask Amounts Columns for all constituents in this range. Fixed ask ladders are most useful for acquisition mailings where there is no prior giving. User-added image
      2. Add – Select this option to add values entered in the Ask amounts to the entry amount. For example, if a constituent had an entry amount of $25.00 and we entered $25, $35, and $45 under Ask Amounts, we would see asks of $50 (25 + 25), $60 (25 + 35), and $70 (25 + 45). User-added image
      3. Multiply – Select this option if you would like to multiply the entry amount by values entered under Ask amounts. For example, if a constituent had an entry amount of $50 and we entered 1.5, 2, and 2.50 under ask amount, we would see asks of $75 (50 x 1.5), $100 (50 x 2), and $125 (50 x 2.5) User-added image
    3. In the Prompt field, enter the text to appear on the marketing effort for write-in amounts, such as “Other Amount”
    4. In the Round up to field, enter a whole number to round up calculated ask amounts. For example, if you enter 5, Altru will round up to the multiple of five.
  7. Go to the Preview tab to preview your ask ladder for different entry amounts.
    1. In the Entry amount range field, select an entry amount range based on the values entered in the Amounts at or above column. The grid displays the calculated ask amounts for all entry amounts included in the range.
    2. In the Interval field, select the place value to round to.
    3. If you need to adjust your Ask Ladder, you can go back to the Ask Ladder tab to adjust.
  8. Click Save to save your Ask Ladder. Once saved, your Ask Ladder is ready to be used in a mailing.
