Error: The category of this custom field is inactive - when adding a custom field in NXT

When adding an action through the web view with an action type of phone, email, or mail it may be important to know whether that action was initiated from your organization or from a prospect or potential donor.  We are able to identify whether the direction of the action was inbound or outbound.  This function does not exist on an action record in the database view but is added as an attribute on the action for reporting purposes.  There may be times when a user receives the error above.

To resolve this issue we need to make sure the attributes for Action Outcome and Action Direction are active.  Please follow the steps below:

1. Open the database view Supervisor rights
2. Go to Config > Attributes > Action 
3. Mark Action Outcome and Action Direction as active

Steps to Duplicate

  1. Log in to Raiser's Edge NXT
  2. Search for and Open existing constituent record
  3. On the constituent record navigate to the Notes and Actions tile
  4. Select "add action"
  5. For "What kind of action" select any type such as Email
  6. Choose an action type from the drop down
  7. Enter in a date
  8. Add a summary
  9. At the bottom select custom fields and "add custom field"
  10. Choose a category from the drop down
  11. Select a Value from the drop down
  12. Enter in a date
  13. Add a comment
  14. Save and close the Custom Field
  15. Error will occur
