In one case, the BBEC record was being sync'd with Team Approach records.  Support found that, for some unknown reason, the Keyname on the Constituent record in CRM contained unusual characters, which appeared in the Constituent search results in the Name column.  This value was not what it should be, based on researching associated account values in Team Approach.  

To fix this issue, Support flagged the Constituent in TA to sync over again, which updated the keyname value to what it should be based on the TA name data.
