This article details why DeceasedRecordFinder may return a deceased date of 09/09/9999 for certain constituents.
Due to new privacy restrictions that are being imposed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the National Technical Information Service we are no longer able to provide the date-of-death for individuals that have died in the past three years.
This is an effort to prevent fraud and possible identity theft surrounding recently deceased individuals. Therefore, protections are now in place to prevent disclosure of this information for a period of three years after death.
We can still match your records to these protected records. However, we will not be allowed to return the specific date of death for records that are within the protected three-year time frame.
We are working to update our products to properly reflect this change, but in the meantime individuals that fall within this three year period will receive a deceased date of 09/09/9999.
