What does the Total classes number mean on the attendance tab

When looking at a student's profile in Academics, there is a box that says total classes, the number may not match the number of classes the student is enrolled in.

This number is the amount of times the teacher hit the Take Attendance button and saved the data. In effect, this number is the amount of times attendance was recorded.
