Error: Details: "OData: The feed's metadata document appears to be invalid." when using OData in Excel

When attempting to use OData in Excel, you get this error after entering your credentials. You may see this error using Power Query or Get and Transform (Excel 2016). 

OData coming from Altru does not contain any metadata and Power Query/Get and Transform requires metadata to run. In order to use OData in Excel, take the following steps:
 
  1. Go to the Data tab
  2. Select From Other Sources
  3. Select From OData Feed
  4. Enter your OData link in the box labeled Link or File
  5. Enter your Altru credentials in the Log on credentials box. 
NOTE: The username will need to be formatted as Blackbaudhost\username
  1. Click Finish

Steps to Duplicate

  1. Go to the Data tab
  2. Select New Query
  3. On the dropdown menu select From Other Sources > From Odata Feed
  4. Enter the URL
  5. Enter your credentials under the Basic tab
  6. Click Connect
