Hosted clients are unable to access OLAP reports due to a connection error. This is usualy followed by a prompt for server connection details or further connection errors.
The OLAP Reports and OLAP Explorer run off the Data Warehouse OLAP cube. Customers using Blackbaud Hosting cannot make connections to the cube nor any other databases in the Hosted environment. Based on the technologies connection methods explored at the time of development; Security will not allow the required direct connections through the firewall to hosted databases. Further exploration to use this feature for hosting was stopped and more secure methods were developed. This is what led to the development of the oData Data Warehouse feature released in Blackbaud CRM Version 4.0 Service Pack 13.
As of Blackbaud CRM Version 4.0 Service Pack 13, there’s an Odata Web API feature in place with the specific purpose of allowing Blackbaud Hosted customers to report off of the BBDW database using the third-party reporting tool of their choice (Excel, Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
