Two First Name columns in Constituent Batch

Users may find that existing constituent batches contain two First Name fields in patch 7 for Raiser's Edge 7.96. They may notice that the Primary Salutation field is missing from the batch.

New constituent batches behave normally. 

This is resolved in patch 8, released in January - February 2018 and applied to databases in Blackbaud Hosting Services. If your database is installed locally, download and install the latest version and patch, if applicable.

To resolve this issue in patch 7:

If the batch contains two First Name fields:

  1. Review the contents of each First Name column.
  2. One column may contain Primary Salutations instead of First Names. Note the incorrect column.
  3. Go to Tools > Edit batch setup.
  4. Click the Fields tab.
  5. Find the field in the right pane that contains Primary Salutations instead of First Names. Remove from the right pane.
  6. If needed, add Primary Salutation (and any other needed fields) from the left pane to the right.
  7. Click Data Entry.
NOTE: Removing the column will also remove the data already entered for Primary Salutation. Primary salutations will then need to be added to the batch again for the constituents in the batch.

    Steps to Duplicate

    1. Go to Batch. 
    2. Open an existing Constituent Batch created before applying patch 7.
    3. Scroll through the included fields or go to Tools > Edit Batch Setup > Fields tab.
    4. Notice that there are two fields for First Name.
