- Continue to use the 2017 table until the update file is released. Once the update file is released, download and install the file (if your database is hosted by Blackbaud, this will be done for you) then create your 2018 Federal tax table to pull in the updated rates.
- If you would like to create and update the 2018 table before the update file is released, the 2018 Federal tax table can be manually created and updated per the IRS Notice 1036.
More information from the IRS on this can be found here: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-statement-withholding-for-2018. Questions about this should be directed to the IRS or a tax professional.
"The IRS released Notice 1036, which updates the income-tax withholding tables for 2018 reflecting changes made by the tax reform legislation enacted last month.
The updated withholding information, posted on IRS.gov, shows the new rates for employers to use during 2018. Employers should begin using the 2018 withholding tables as soon as possible, but not later than Feb. 15, 2018. They should continue to use the 2017 withholding tables until implementing the 2018 withholding tables.
More information is available in the IRS Withholding Tables Frequently Asked Questions."
