Query for Household Cumulative Received is not giving the correct results

I created a query of all Journal gifts (received) for 2017 and used that as a starting query in another query using only the field of Household Cumulative Received with a data return type of All Household Journal Entries per Criteria. The results I received were all Journal Entries (gifts, pledges, contacts, notes and for all dates) for the accounts in the starting query.  Why is this happening?  I used the steps in the knowledgebase article titled How to Query on Households by Cumulative Giving Amounts.

Steps to Duplicate

Query 1 - First we will find all donations in 2016 (you can customize this date range and any criteria in this first query)
  1. Click Queries
  2. Select a Category that you want to store this query in
  3. Select New Query under the tasks menu
  4. Name the Query All donations in 2016
  5. Under Starting Query, set the Category to Base and the Query to All Constituents – A
  6. Under Results, set the Data Return Type to Journal Entries
  7. Set the Criteria Matching to “Match each criteria”
  8. Set the Personas to be checked to Any Persona
  9. Now, let’s add Criteria. These Criteria will be used to find the results you need.
  10. Select Commonly Used Fields from the Browse Fields drop down menu and click Journal Entry Date
  11. Fill in your date range (1/1/2016-12/31/2016)
  12. Select Commonly Used Fields from the Browse Fields drop down menu and click Individual Transaction Received
  13. Fill in Greater Than or Equal To/$.01
  14. Click Save and View Queries

Query 2 – Next, we'll find the households that gave $1000+ in 2016. Notice how we use the first query as the Starting Query:
  1. Click Queries
  2. Select a Category that you want to store this query in
  3. Select New Query under the tasks menu
  4. Name the Query Households that gave $1000+ last year
  5. Under Starting Query, choose All donations in 2016- JE (This is Query 1 from above)
  6. Under Results, set the Data Return Type to Household Journal Entries Per Criteria
  7. Set the Criteria Matching to “Match each criteria”
  8. Set the Personas to be checked to Any Persona
  9. Now, let’s add Criteria. These Criteria will be used to find the results you need.
  10. Select Cumulative Amounts from the Browse Fields drop down menu and click Household Cumulative Received (This should be the only piece of criteria in the query)
  11. Fill in Greater Than or Equal To/$1000
  12. Click Save and View Queries
