Why is this happening?
The data center where Luminate is hosted has changed ownership to another vendor and the IP addresses are changing as a result. To ensure continuity of service, updates to IP addresses should to be completed by May 10, 2018. Blackbaud is making the switch to the new IP addresses on May 11, 2018.

How does this impact customers?
Blackbaud will make DNS updates behind the scenes with very low or no impact to most customers. Some customers who use certain Luminate features will also need to update their systems to change references to the old IP addresses so that they point to the new IP addresses. We are recommending a deadline of May 10, 2018 for the changes to ensure everything is completed in time.

What are the specific Luminate features that require IP address updating by customers?
There are four different kinds of updates that customers might need to make. In this document we include details on each type of change. They include:
  • Whitelisting and integration with systems external to Blackbaud
  • DNS updates
  • SPF record updates
  • LCRM Salesforce account updates

How do I know if I need to make changes?
Not all Luminate, TeamRaiser, and Luminate CMS clients will need to make updates. This is a guide for if a change needs to be made:
  • Luminate clients who utilize a third-party application with a whitelist or have a whitelist to connect with Luminate will need to update their IP whitelists for those third-party applications (Luminate Re-IP Whitelisting).
  • Luminate, TeamRaiser, and Luminate CMS clients who utilize IP addresses in their DNS CNAME record rather than a domain name will need to make updates to their DNS record. If your DNS uses IP addresses rather than a domain name, you will need to make an update (Luminate Re-IP DNS Changes).
  • Luminate clients who utilize IP addresses rather than a domain name for their SPF record will need to make updates to their SPF record as part of the DNS update (Luminate Re-IP SPF Changes).
  • Luminate CRM clients who utilize Login IPs for the Luminate CRM API Only and Luminate Administrator profiles will need to add new IP ranges to the Login IP list (Luminate Re-IP LCRM Changes).

What will happen if we don’t make this change?
After Blackbaud begins to redirect its IP addresses, if customers haven’t made the required updates, they may not be able to access some or all of their Luminate solutions and services that rely on the old IP address and DNS settings. In some cases, URLs will direct traffic to a “page not found” error message. Third party integrations may fail. Avoid service disruption by making the required DNS updates, preferably by May 10, 2018.

Can we make this change before May 10?
Yes. The new IP addresses will be fully functional as of March 16, 2018 so customers do not need to wait. In some cases, updates to DNS settings need to propagate across the internet, which may take from 24-48 hours. To avoid disruptions to your webpages and donations forms, please do not leave making these DNS changes to the last minute!

What is a whitelist?
A whitelist identifies a list of IP addresses that are granted explicit rights to send traffic or exchange data to a system. Whitelisting is the reverse of blacklisting which identifies entities to deny access.

What is a DNS record and how do I know what my settings are?
DNS stands for Domain Name System, which is the largest digital database in the world, containing information about every web site on the internet. Every web site online has an IP address that is its actual internet location, and this number is used to locate the web site within the database. What is Sender Policy Framework (SPF)?
This validation framework allows mailbox providers to verify that Blackbaud is authorized to send email on behalf of your organization. This is an important anti-spam and phishing checkpoint, and accurate SPF settings helps ensure that email we send on your behalf will get delivered to your supporters.

What are the correct Sender Policy Framework settings for Luminate?

  • The Icann WhoIs lookup tool will provide you the name and website of your DNS registrar, as well as your organization's Technical Contact who registered the domain.
  • The DNS Dig web interface will display your current DNS settings for a specific domain.
  • The SPF Checker tool will lookup and display your current SPF record.
