Note : Before you proceed with the following instructions, back up the database. If your organization integrates multiple Blackbaud products, refer to the Additional Requirements section of the backup article. 

Prior to importing, we suggest marking Validate Now on the General tab.: Validating the data will not import the information in the system. This is a test run of the import.


  1. Create a data file 
    1. Click Export
    2. Create a Student Exportin CSV format.
    3. On the filters tab, use the preferred filters.
    4. On the Output tab expand Student 
    5. Double click Import ID AND Student ID
    6. Preview the export and export to the preferred location

  1. Verify the file has following required fields (any additional fields can be included in the import as well):
    •  Import ID 
    • Record ID (Student ID or Applicant ID or Individual ID depending on which record types are being updated)
  2. Click Administration > click Import. 
  3. Click Student  (located below Student)> Click New
  4. Mark Update Existing records on the General tab.
  5. Browse to the CSV file in the Import file field. 
  6. Select "Student Import ID" for the Student Import ID field

  1. Select the File Layout tab and select the Import File does not contain field names option ONLY if your import file does not have a header. If your Import File contains the field names, mark Fields names are on the first line of the import file.

  2. Click Validate now (if we marked Validate data only on the general tab) or Import Now
