Schools have the option of choosing between two different methods for distributing educational funds. They can adjust this setting by contacting a Smart Aid representative. The two different methods for distributing educational funds are:

1. Prorate allocates the families’ total Household Contribution to Education (HCE) to students attending their school first, and the rest of their HCE gets distributed to the other students on the application with a tuition expense. This is Smart Aid’s default method for distributing educational funds.

2. Divide Evenly is based on the ratio of education expenses compared to the other students on the application. This calculation method divides the family’s HCE between the students with a tuition expense on the application. This is Smart Aid’s recommended method for distributing educational funds.
