Expiration date for credit card, in email appeal mailing not properly formatted

I created a mailing to email patron who's credit cards on a pledge or recurring gifts were about to expire and the date in that appeal email is not formatted correctly. The Credit card expiration date in my appeal mailing appears 2018531 instead of 5/31/2018. 
The credit card expiration date field will show in a format of 2018531 instead of 5/31/2018 when the field is used in an email. 

Steps to Duplicate

Step #1: Create a selection:
  1. Navigate to Analysis, then click on Information Library
  2. Click add an ad-hoc query
  3. Select the source view of Constituents, then click OK
  4. On the left-hand side of query select revenue and from the middle select credit card expired and move to include records where and set to this year
  5. Go to the set save options tab and name your query
  6. Check the boxes to make to save as a selection and make available in the query designer   
  7. Click save
Step #2: Create your mailing:
  1. Navigate to Marketing and communication > Appeal mailings
  2. Click Add
  3. Name and select appeal
  4. Under selection, click add and find the query you created
  5. Under “how do you want to sed this letter”  select email
  6. Under merge fields select edit
  7. Expand constituent marketing information
  8. Expand constituent
  9. Select revenue
  10. In the applied Criteria box select selected records
  11. Double click expires one
  12. Set it equal to this year
  13. Click okay
Step #3: Run mailing:
  1. Click run mailing
  2. Select when you want the email to send
