Building Groups in Seraphim

Groups are an essential piece of the Seraphim puzzle. Groups will help you get the most out of many features within the Seraphim tool suite.
Groups interact with Attendance, Events, Ministry Planner, Workflows, Reports, Letters, Onboarding, and Safe Check-In

Static Groups *Directory*

  • Select the Directory Tile and then the Group tab
  • Choose the “New Group” option and enter a name for the group that you are creating. Enter the names of the people you are searching for within the Search by Name box at the bottom. Add them to the group with the Add button. You can also remove them with the Remove button

Dynamic Groups *Directory*

  • Select the Directory Tile and then the Group tab
  • Choose the “New Group” option and enter the name of the group. In the drop box that says “Type of Group”, choose the Dynamic option and the screen will change
  • Choose the criteria you will be searching for by selecting “New Criteria”.

NOTE:

Whenever you create a dynamic group, you always want to set the first line as a membership criteria. As a general rule of thumb it's best to set the criteria line like this:

There are multiple options to choose within the 3rd drop down box of Criteria:

  • = – Selects only the value you are directly looking at
  • <> – is not equal to what you are searching for
  • >= – Selects all values that are greater than or equal to what you are searching for
  • in – Selects the values that you chose, allows you to select multiple
  • <=   -Selects all values that are lesser than or equal to what you are searching for
  • not in – Searches for everything except what you have selected
  • relative – Search based on of dates. So it can look forward or backward, by a certain number of days
  • is blank – Searches based on the field being blank

Group Options *Directory*

On the left side of the groups when you’re editing or creating a group, there are options to create or add to a Folder to subcategorize the group

  • Properties you can assign a group as a Class, chose to make it public, hide the group (within a folder called “Hidden”), use for Class Registration so someone can sign up for a class, or use it in a Workflow
