Reminder: An Important Message about GIFTS Support
Note: This applies to customers who use GIFTS. If you have already made the move to Blackbaud Grantmaking or are in the process of doing so, we thank you for your continued partnership, and you may disregard this message.
Is there a date when GIFTS support will end? After December 31, 2018, GIFTS will no longer be supported which means no maintenance will be done to the product, and support will no longer be offered after December 31st, 2018. In preparation for the end of GIFTS support, you may have recently been contacted by your account manager to discuss your migration from GIFTS to Blackbaud Grantmaking. Over 550 customers have already made the move to BB Grantmaking, and we are excited to partner with you as you upgrade to the best available grants management capabilities.
Beyond the December 31, 2018 deadline, Blackbaud will offer Extended Support for installed GIFTS Classic View.
For clients who subscribe to Extended Support for GIFTS, the scope of support and maintenance is that we will respond to any standard questions and offer normal support for the product. If the issue you experience within GIFTS during this time is determined to be a software defect, it will not be resolved unless it is considered a critical or down issue where users are completely unable to finish their work.
During the extended support contract period, Blackbaud usually provides corrections for critical issues to customers and the client will have access to standard support via their contracted channels. Extended support is an optional offering giving our customers more flexibility in deciding on the right time for an upgrade. If you choose not to engage in Extended Support past your contracted support and maintenance period, please be aware that you will not be entitled to any support or maintenance services.”
We recommend that we begin planning your move to Blackbaud Grantmaking immediately to ensure the most successful migration and onboarding experience.
Why is Blackbaud discontinuing their support of GIFTS? As advances in technology continuously drive product innovation, Blackbaud releases new products, features, and services that help nonprofit organizations achieve their missions. This means that clients can realize new value from the consistent investment and advancement of many Blackbaud solutions while Blackbaud simultaneously prepares more mature products for product end of life. We are focused on providing our customers the best possible experience. To do that, we want all of our customers on the best and most progressive software in the market, Blackbaud Grantmaking. On Blackbaud Grantmaking we can ensure that you are receiving updates as soon as they are released, your data is secure and accessible no matter what happens, and you have the lowest total cost of ownership with no need to host your data on your own server, work with a consultant to update your system, or deal with any software challenges when you try to upgrade hardware within your organization.
In addition, we have less than 50 customers on GIFTS today. While the number of users is decreasing, the cost to support the product is not. Although we aren’t making significant advancements, we continue to offer a updates which requires time and resources from our development staff. In addition, we continue to employ a support team to answer questions and troubleshoot for those customers.
Does this date apply to GIFTS Alta? No. This does date does not apply to GIFTS Alta. We will continue to support GIFTS Alta throughout 2018 and 2019, but we continue to urge all customers to move to the best and most progressive software in the market, Blackbaud Grantmaking.
My contract is effective until after December, 31st 2018. What does that mean for me? We are working with each of our installed customers to make this transition work for them. Your Account Executive will be in contact to work through your specific details and build a plan for the future.
I have concerns with moving to Blackbaud Grantmaking. How can I ensure that my organization and I will have a good experience? Blackbaud has already migrated the majority of our installed products (Essential GIFTS, GIFTS, GIFTS Alta) to Blackbaud Grantmaking. We have a proven process to migrate your data, train your team, and support you throughout our partnership to ensure you have the information and resources you need to be successful.
I won’t be able to move prior to December 31st, 2018. Can we extend my contract for a short time? We will not be extending contracts for GIFTS past the December 31st, 2018 date. Our Blackbaud Grantmaking implementation team can work with you to migrate as quickly as possible. If you need time to secure budget and timeline, we understand and will work with you to time your migration appropriately.
