Parents are processed first. The first parent processed "owns" the home address and home phone. Their spouse "shares" the same home address and home phone records. Then, when Students are processed, a Parent/Child Relationship is established between the student and parents, and the student "shares" the their home address and home phone records. Therefore, Parents must be processed prior to processing Students.
Typically, three data refresh files are required to ensure the above processing works as desired.
- Parents - The first parent listed in a row in the Parent data file "owns" the home address and home phone. The second parent, spouse, listed on the same row "shares" the home address and home phone with the first parent listed on a row.
- Relationships - identifies which parent(s) are related to which students.
- Students - based upon the relationships defined in the relationship file, will "share" the parents home address and home phone.
In order to ensure the correct parent's home address is listed in the student's profile, in case there is a divorce or separated situation, it may require that the student's home address is also included in the student data refresh file. However, this information is used as part of the relationship building process and is not mapped to the student's User Profile. So students never "own" their own home address and home phone until they graduate.
