• Please note: Removing a Bad indicator will not remove the user from Amazon’s suppression list. Users will be on Amazon’s suppression list after 1 hard or soft bounce from ANY email sent via Amazon, not exclusively emails from WhippleHill, and will be removed automatically after 2 weeks. Please ask your constituents for an alternate email address.

While Bounce parameters can be seen through onMessage> Settings> Pushpage> Bounce Parameters, the school should view this screen as a visual reminder of Amazon's suppression practices.

  • Recommendations: We recommend setting Soft and Hard Bounce values to 1 to mirror Amazon’s policies. Changing these values will not keep Amazon from suppressing emails after 1 Hard or Soft bounce. Amazon considers messages that have soft bounced for 12 hours to be a hard bounce.
    • Hard Bounce: An email is bounced back to the sender as undeliverable without being accepted by the recipient's mail server.
Examples: invalid e-mail address (syntax error, recipient is unknown, domain name doesn't exist)
    • Soft Bounce: An email message gets as far as the recipient's mail server but bounces back undelivered before it gets to the intended recipient.
Examples: recipient's inbox is full, delivery time expired, connection problems.
