I'm trying to open a document in GIFTS and getting an error 'Cannot Find Document'

Whenever I try to open documents associated with a request/org/contact in GIFTS, I get an error telling me the file cannot be found.
This error usually occurs because the document file was moved from its original location, or the Document Path specified in the GIFTS External Preferences was changed so that it no longer matches the location of the files on your network.

If the document has been moved from its original location:
  1. Return the document to the path specified in the External Preferences. (If your installation of GIFTS is set up to store documents for different events in separate subdirectories, make sure to move the document to the appropriate subdirectory.)
  2. Open the document in GIFTS to verify that its link has been re-established.
  3. If you would like the document to be stored in a different location, use the procedure in the 'Moving Documents' section of the GIFTS User's Guide to move it (instead of moving it using Windows); GIFTS will update the document path to reflect its new location.

If the Document Path Has Been Changed If GIFTS:

  1. Move the missing documents to the new Document Path so they can be located by GIFTS. (If your installation of GIFTS is set up to store documents for different events in separate subdirectories, make sure that those subdirectories have been created within your new Document Path and move the document to the appropriate subdirectory.)
  2. Revert the Document Path to its previous setting. (If you choose this option, any documents created after the Document Path was changed will have to be moved so their links to GIFTS are not broken.)   After you have moved your documents or changed the Document Path to restore document links, open a document in GIFTS to verify that its link has been re-established.
