What are the major differences between Terminal Service and Citrix Metaframe, two thin client platforms
Windows 2000 Terminal Service uses RDP protocol, tuned for high bandwidth enterprise networks. Terminal Server utilizes a "remote desktop" model, where the client "sees" a projection of a desktop on the remote server.
Citrix Metaframe operates on ICA network protocol, which is highly adaptable to operate optimally over high and low bandwidth networks. Citrix supports the remote desktop model as well as "Seamless Windowed Applications". A seamless windowed application allows the client to access applications on the remote server without loading the remote desktop environment. The application interacts with the client's desktop just like any other locally installed application.
