Note : Before you proceed with the following instructions, back up the database. If your organization integrates multiple Blackbaud products, refer to the Additional Requirements section of the backup article. Notes:
  • Although you can install a patch to avoid issues it corrects, it's necessary only when the patch resolves an issue that affects your organization. Review the patch readme, which is located on the Downloads page for The Raiser's Edge, for the list of issues resolved, consider whether it addresses issues that impact your organization, and verify you have the time and resources needed to test and install it.
  • Our patches are cumulative and contain all fixes from previous patches, so only the latest patch is available.
  • Before you install the patch, verify that your database version on the server is the version available on the Downloads page for The Raiser's Edge. The patch is not compatible with earlier versions. If you are not currently running the latest version, download and install it before installing the patch.
  • The patch can only be run once.
  • After you update the server, each workstation must be updated by a person with local administrator rights.
How to install the patch

DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL PATCH ON YOUR SERVER:
  1. If you are updating the database from a previous version, be sure to log into the software to update the database files prior to installing the patch.
  2. Check the software version number that is currently installed. You will use this information later to verify the patch was properly applied.
  3. Verify you are logged into the server as a local administrator.
  4. Close all other applications running on the machine and have all users exit and sign out of the software. Exit and Log Off of Microsoft Outlook by selecting File, Exit and Log Off from the menu bar. *** Due to the Microsoft Office integration features within The Raiser's Edge, failure to exit all Microsoft Office applications properly can cause the cumulative patch to not install properly.
  5. If you use the Queue module, verify that the Queue Service is stopped. It will automatically restart when launching The Raiser's Edge.
  6. On our website, select Downloads from the Support menu and then click The Raiser's Edge.
  7. In the Patch section, click the executable link and then click Save on the File Download screen to save the executable to your server's hard drive.
  8. When the download completes, run the executable to install it on the server.
NOTE:  If using version 7.94 or lower on a server operating system that has User Account Control (UAC) enabled (i.e., Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012), then right-click on the downloaded Raiser's Edge patch executable and select "Run as administrator" to install the patch on the server.
  9. Click Finish once you are prompted that the update completed successfully.
  10. Log into The Raiser's Edge from the server (or standalone) and check the software version number. Verify that it is higher than the one noted in step 2.
  11. Perform the database maintenance recommended after installing a patch.
INSTALL PATCH ON EACH WORKSTATION:
  1. After installing the patch on your server, you must next install the patch on each workstation by a person with local administrator rights to complete the update process.
  2. At each workstation, close out of all other applications that are running. Exit and Log Off of Microsoft Outlook by selecting File, Exit and Log Off from the menu bar. *** Due to the Microsoft Office integration features within The Raiser's Edge, failure to exit all Microsoft Office applications properly can cause the cumulative patch to not install properly.
  3. If you use the Queue module, verify that the Queue Service is stopped on the workstation.
  4. Log into The Raiser's Edge at the workstation. The workstation should prompt you to apply/install the patch automatically.
NOTE:  If you are not prompted to install/apply the patch automatically, then you will need to install it manually.  To do this, from your workstation, browse to the server's deploy folder, open the Patch sub-folder and double-click on BBPatch.exe to apply/install the patch.
  1. Once the patch is installed, then check the software version number to verify that it was updated correctly.
