If the issue occurs for all queries:

Try each of the following steps in order until the issue is resolved:

  1. Allow the query time to process. If needed, let it run during lunch or overnight.
  2. Reboot the workstation.
  3. Limit the criteria and output fields in the query or filters used in the report to what is absolutely necessary.
  4. Close out of all other applications and run the query again, giving it additional time to run.
  5. Stop and restart The Raiser's Edge/The Financial Edge/The Education Edge server instance
  6. Delete temporary files.
  7. Empty the Recycle Bin.
  8. Review how to troubleshoot performance issues (BB8626).

If the issue occurs for a specific query:

Try each of the following steps in order until the issue is resolved:

  1. Delete some of the Output fields from the query, leaving only items needed. Use Export to display the desired fields.
  2. Check for the filters the program might have difficulty processing. (For example, if filtering for names between BA - BZ, the program will have to check for all names beginning with Ba, Bb, Bc, etc. A more efficient filter would be Name begins with B).
  3. Delete some of the Sort fields from the query.
  4. Avoid using negative operators in the query. (For example, use one of instead of not one of.)
  5. To filter on a record, use Constituent Information, Specific Record.
  6. Recreate the query.
  7. Create separate queries and merge them rather than including all the records in the same query.

If the issue occurs when merging queries:

Try each of the following steps in order until the issue is resolved:

  1. Check to see if the combining operator OR is being used between each of the filters. (This pulls anyone who met any of those criteria, not all criteria.)
  2. Reduce the number of output fields.

If the issue occurs for a specific user group:

Recreate the security group.
