Note : Incorrect changes to registry settings can cause serious system problems that may be irreversible without reinstallation of the operating system. You must back up your registry before making any registry changes. We are not responsible for damage resulting from incorrect use of the Registry Editor.

Try each of the following steps in order until the error is resolved:

  1. Log in as a local administrator.
  2. Ensure that the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Objects are installed on the Blackbaud Management Console (BMC) server.
    1. Navigate to the Windows Programs list:
      In Windows Server 2008 and later operating systems, click Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features
      In Windows Server 2003, click Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs
    2. Locate the following entry in the Programs list:  Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Objects
    3. If the program does not exist, navigate to the "ISSetupPrerequisites\Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Shared Management Objects x86" folder located within The Raiser's Edge downloaded installation files and run "SharedManagementObjects.msi".
  1. Correct the path to the Blackbaud Management Console:
    1. Edit the Registry
    2. Navigate to the BMC_NET General registry key:
      1. On Windows 32-bit machines, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blackbaud\BMC_NET\General
      2. On Windows 64-bit Machines, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Blackbaud\BMC_NET\General
    3. Right-click the InstallPath key and select Modify
    4. Edit the Value data to list the path to the Management Console folder.  For example:
      1. OnWindows 32-bit Machines: C:\Program Files\Blackbaud\Management Console\
      2. On Windows 64-bit machines: C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackbaud\Management Console\
    5. Exit the Registry
    6. Open the Blackbaud Management Console
      Note: If the error still occurs, ensure that the spelling in the path is correct
  1. If the BMC_NET key does not exist, create it:
    1. Right-click on Blackbaud and select New, Key
    2. Name the key BMC_NET
    3. Right-click on the BMC_NET and select New, Key
    4. Name the key General
    5. Right-click on General and select New, String Value
    6. Name the new String Value InstallPath
    7. Right-click on the InstallPath string value and select Modify
    8. Enter the correct path to the Blackbaud Management Console folder in the Value data field and click OK
      1. For example: C:\Program Files\Blackbaud\Management Console\
  1. If the error still occurs, run REGMON.exe on the workstation.
  1. Repair the server installation.
