Note : Before you proceed with the following instructions, back up the database. If your organization integrates multiple Blackbaud products, refer to the Additional Requirements section of the backup article.

Pre-Installation Checklist:  

Installation Process:  

  1. Obtain the latest update
  2. Access the update from the Faculty Access for the Web from the Web server
    • If the software was downloaded, ensure that the file is on the web server and extract the download. Browse to the folder created from extracting the download and double-click Setup.exe
    • If using a CD, insert it into your CD-ROM drive and run setup.exe from the CD 
  3. On the InstallShield Wizard welcome screen, click Next
  4. Read the License Agreement screen. If you accept the terms, mark 'I accept the terms of the license agreement'.
    Note: If you mark 'I do not accept the terms of the license agreement', you cannot continue with the installation 
  5. Click Next.
  6. On the Destination Folder screen, we recommend you accept the default destination folder for the installation of Faculty Access for the Web. If you want to change the default location, click 'Change' to access the 'Change Current Destination Folder' screen, then browse to the desired folder where you would like the program installed.  Click OK to return to the Destination Folder screen, then click Next.
  7. On the Web Site screen, select the website to use and click Next.
  8. If prompted for Downloadable Documents, select a location for this folder be created. It defaults to one of two locations:
    • C:\Program Files\Blackbaud\Downloadable Documents\  (if using 32-bit operating system)
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackbaud\Downloadable Documents\  (if using a 64-bit operating system)
  9. Click Next.
  10. If asked whether NetClassroom is installed, select one of the options:
    • 'You do not have NetClassroom.' and click Next.
    • 'You have NetClassroom, please enter the web address.' and enter the web address based on the format listed (The format should be as follows: "http://NetClassroomServerName/NetClassroom7").  Then, click Next.
  11. On the Ready to Install the Program screen, click Install. When the installation is complete, the InstallShield Wizard Completed screen appears. 
  12. Once the installation completes, click Finish. An icon for Faculty Access for the Web is added to the desktop of the Web server. 
  13. If you are reinstalling Faculty Access for the Web, replace the Downloadable Documents folder installed with the copy made before uninstalling 
  14. Set NTFS permissions on the web server.  (Review Knowledgebase Solution BB717807 to learn more about configuring NTFS permissions easier with the PermFlash utility)
If applicable, once Faculty Access for the Web is installed, download and install the Faculty Access for the Web cumulative patch (BB148599).

Update Process:
  1. Obtain the latest update
  2. Access the update from the Faculty Access for the Web from the Web server
    • If using a CD, insert it into your CD-ROM drive and run setup.exe from the CD.
    • If the software was downloaded, ensure that the file is on the web server and extract the download. Browse to the folder created from extracting the download and double-click Setup.exe
  3. When prompted for 'This setup will perform an upgrade of 'Faculty Access for the Web Version 7'. Do you want to continue?', click Yes.
  4. On the 'Resuming the InstallShield Wizard for Faculty Access for the Web Version 7' screen, click Next.
  5. If asked whether NetClassroom is installed, select one of the options:
    • 'You do not have NetClassroom.' and click Next.
    • 'You have NetClassroom, please enter the web address.' and enter the web address based on the format listed. Then, click Next.
  6. The update will start after this point.
  7. Once prompted that the update is complete, click Finish. 

Notes: 

  1. If Faculty Access for the Web is installed on a Windows Server 2012 server, refer to What additional steps are required when installing Faculty Access for the Web on Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2  after installing Faculty Access for the Web.
