SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2012, and SQL Server 2014:

  1. Go to Start, Programs, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 / Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 / Microsoft SQL Server 2012 / Microsoft SQL Server 2014, Configuration Tools, SQL Server Configuration Manager  
  2. Expand SQL Server Network Configuration, and highlight Protocols for MSSQLSERVER
  3. In the details pane, right click TCP/IP, and select Properties  
  4. Select the IP Addresses tab  
The TCP Port is listed for each IP Address on the machine

Note: In addition to the above TCP port, UDP 1434 must also be opened to allow discovery of the TCP port.
