1. Save the Excel file in CSV format
2. Use Import to find the constituents in The Raiser's Edge that match the Excel file. This can be done by either validating the data or in the live import:

Validating the Import
  • On the General tab of the import function, select Import new records. Under Options, mark the Validate data only and Use duplicate criteria for new records options. (Both options must be marked.)
  • On the Summary tab, mark the Create a control report button.  The records that appear in the control report with the exception of 'duplicate record found' are duplicates.  

In the live Import
  • On the General tab of the import function, select Import new records. Under Options, mark Use duplicate criteria for new records option.
  • On the Summary tab, mark the options to Create an exception file of records not updated/imported and click the ... button to specify where the Exception file of records not imported are saved. Mark the Create a control report button also. The records that appear in the Exception are suspected duplicates and the Control Report will note the possible existing record.
