On the Restrictions 2 tab of each course record in Records - Courses, you can add restrictions specific to an academic year and session, such as the term the course starts, how many terms it spans, and the number and length of class meetings. You can restrict a course by meetings or by pattern.

  1. Restricting a course by meetings
    1. In Records - Courses, open the appropriate course record.
    2. On the Restrictions 2 tab, create or open an academic year/session record.
    3. In the Restrict by field, select Meeting.
    4. In the grid, enter the number of meetings and the length (in minutes) of each meeting.

Note: Depending on how the timetable is defined in Configuration, this column could be the Length in Periods column. If so, enter the number of periods each class meeting lasts.
    5. In the Restricted Times grid, in the Cycle Day column, select the cycle day the room is unavailable or All cycle days.
    6. In the Restrict Availability By column, select Period, Time, or Cycle Day.
      • If you select Cycle Day, the program automatically restricts availability by time.
      • If you select Period, in the Unavailable Period column, select the period in which the course is unavailable.
      • If you select Time, in the Unavailable From Time and Unavailable To Time columns, enter the time the course is unavailable.

    7. Click OK to save the restrictions.

  2. Restricting a course by pattern
    1. In Records - Courses, open the appropriate course record.
    2. On the Restrictions 2 tab, create or open an academic year/session record.
    3. In the Restrict by field, select Pattern.
    4. In the adjacent field, select the pattern by which to restrict classes.
    5. In the Number of meetings field, you can select Use Pattern values or Specific value.
      • Select Use Pattern values if you want to schedule the class as often as the pattern indicates.
      • Select Specific value if you want to schedule the class fewer times per cycle than the pattern indicates. (For example, you can select a pattern that meets 5 times per cycle, but set it to meet only 3 times on a particular course record.)

    6. To schedule each class in a different block, mark the Each class must use a different block checkbox.
    7. In the Restricted Times grid, in the Restrict Availability By column, select Day or Block.
      • If you select Day, you can restrict classes from being scheduled on specified cycle days during specified times. In the Day column, select the cycle day in which to restrict meeting times. In the Unavailable From Time and Unavailable To Time columns, enter the time of the cycle day the course cannot be scheduled.
      • If you select Block, you can restrict classes from being scheduled during an entire block.

    8. Click OK to save the restrictions.
