On the Categories (BB221793) page in Gradebook Setup, you can create assignment categories, such as Homework, Essay, and Test, to group assignments and average assignment grades to determine category averages.

When you create a category, the Factor column is required if --

• You selected the option to calculate marking column averages based on category averages column

• You define the category as graded

The percentage of each category in the marking column average calculation is determined by dividing each category factor by the sum of the factors. For example, enter 25 as the factor for the Homework and Essay categories, and enter 50 as the factor for the Test category. The sum of the factors is 100. This calculates the percentages of the categories for the marking column average as 25/100 or 25% Homework, 25/100 or 25% Essay, and 50/100 or 50% Test.

Note: The sum of the factors does not have to equal 100. The percentage is still determined by dividing each factor by the sum of the factors. For example, 30/150 = 20%.
