Try each of the following steps in order until the issue is resolved:

  1. Verify that the Queue service is installed. If it is not installed, install the Queue service
Note: It is not recommended that you install the Queue service on more than one machine.

Note: We provide links to third-party websites in an effort to help you resolve your issue. We are not responsible for the information on third-party websites, and we cannot assist in implementing the solutions on these websites.

    1. Verify that the Queue service is running.
      1. Open/access Windows Services.
      2. Locate and right-click on FE Queue Service (or RE Queue Service) and select Properties.
      3. Verify the Service status is set to Started.  If it is not started, then press the Start button and wait for confirmation that is has started successfully.

    2. Change the Queue service's Log On tab to a specific domain Windows account ("Queue Windows account"). We recommend using a domain account specifically for Queue Service which has local administrator rights on the computer where the Queue Service is installed. NOTE:  If using Windows only authentication mode in SQL Server, then verify that this domain Windows user has the necessary rights within SQL Server.
      1. Open/access Windows Services.
      2. Locate and right-click on FE Queue Service (or RE Queue Service) and select Properties.
      3. Select the Log On tab.
      4. Change the selection from Log on as: 'Local System Account' to 'This account'.
      5. Supply a domain Windows account that has a default printer specified. Note: Be sure the domain Windows account also has local administrator rights on the computer where the Queue service is installed. For an explanation of the differences between domain Windows accounts and local Windows accounts, please see the following Microsoft article: technet.microsoft.com/en- us/library/bb726978.aspx
      6. Stop and restart the service.

    3. Create a separate & dedicated software user with Supervisor rights to run scheduled queues (i.e., "REQueue" or "FEQueue").  Verify that this software user account is the account selected in the "Run as" field on the Processing tab and that no one is logged in with this software user account.

    4. Verify that a Query refresh scheduled queue processes successfully.  If unsuccessful, then Queue is not setup and configured correctly.  Please review and complete steps in How to install the Queue Service and configure scheduled Queues.

    5. In the queue, format the Run On name with the name of the computer where the Queue service is installed.

    6. Test the validity of the scheduled queue by running it on demand.  For The Raiser's Edge, see What is Queue Validation and how to run it in Raiser's Edge 7.  Note:  When running on demand queues, the Queue service is not used.

    7. Verify that there are no other queues scheduled to run by any user:
      • Check the Show Scheduled Queues Window for any queues in a processing state that may be stuck. Cancel any hung jobs and delete any unnecessary scheduled jobs which may no longer be needed. Note: If you have a training or test database, complete these steps in that additional database as well.
      • Check Task Manager and make sure that neither the "FE7QueueExe7.exe" (if using The Financial Edge or The Education Edge) and "ProcessQueue.exe" (if using The Raiser's Edge) processes are not running in the Processes tab.
      • If Show Scheduled Queues Window or Task Manager indicates that a scheduled queue is running but none are scheduled at this time, then review The Queue service is running, but scheduled queues are not being processed for failed or hanging scheduled queues.
    8. If the scheduled queue is exporting or merging, then:
    9. If the scheduled queue is printing or generating a report, then:
      • Verify that a default printer has been set for the Queue Windows account. If it has not, log onto the computer running the Queue service as the Windows Account that is running the Queue service and set a physical printer as the default.
      • Verify that the Queue Windows account has permissions to the printer selected.
    10. If the scheduled queue involves emailing (i.e., emailing a report), then Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) is required.  Note: Microsoft Outlook is not used or needed for sending emails via a scheduled queue.
      • Verify that SMTP is installed and configured:
      • Test connectivity to the SMTP Server by sending an email using the Command prompt.
      • If using The Financial Edge or The Education Edge, then on the Miscellaneous tab, manually type in the email address in the "Mail from" field instead of selecting the binoculars and retrieving the email address from Outlook.
      • If using The Financial Edge or The Education Edge version 7.82.104.24 or higher, then you can also enter a valid email address in the "From" address for Queue email in Configuration, Business Rules, Queue.
      • If using The Raiser's Edge version 7.91.5056.2 or higher, then test using Anonymous SMTP authentication, if possible.
      • If using The Raiser's Edge version 7.91.5056.18 or higher, then enter a valid email address in the "From" address for Queue email in Configuration, Business Rules, Mail Options.
    11. Recreate the scheduled queue.

    12. If you are running scheduled queues in The Raiser's Edge, run RERegister.

    13. Configure Queue to "Send a Queue Status Notification" on the Miscellaneous tab. Review the results reflected in the email received.   If applicable, on the Processing tab, unmark the checkbox for "If an error occurs while running this queue, stop processing".

    14. Create a Queue Control Report (The Financial Edge/The Education Edge \ The Raiser's Edge)

      • Type of Queue operation that is being performed (import, export, print, email, ect.).
      • The exact steps to duplicate the issue (click by click).
      • The name of the affected Queue.
