It is important to link records when adding relationships, rather than just entering the name of the record in the Last name or Org name field, because linking indicates to the database that the relationship record is the same entity as the one being linked in the relationship. For example, when adding Wendy Hernandez as an individual relationship to Robert Hernandez, the user should search for and select Wendy Hernandez's constituent record, rather than simply entering her name on the relationship record. The Raiser's Edge now recognizes the constituent and the individual relationship, both named Wendy Hernandez, are the same person.

To link new relationships:

    1. When adding a relationship record, click the binoculars in the Last name or Org name field
    2. On the Open screen, search for and select the appropriate record
    3. Click Open. The relationship's information populates the relationship record.

    To link existing relationships:

      1. In Records, click Constituents
      2. Open the constituent record containing the individual relationship that needs to be linked.
      3. Open the appropriate relationship on the Relationships tab
      4. Click the binoculars in the Last name or Org name field
      5. On the Open screen, search for and select the appropriate record
      6. Click Open. The relationship's information populates the relationship record.
      7. Save and close the relationship record
