In certain reports, the Pledge Type drop-down menu on the General tab allows you to select to include the whole pledge (Master) or include specific installments (Installment):

Master will list the pledge record. The one pledge will have one line.

Installment will list each installment. This option will list each installments on its own line, thus, one pledge could be represented by multiple lines.

The setting will only apply if Pledge and/or Matching Gift Pledge gift types are included in the report.

Whether you select master or installment, the pledge payments that fall within the report date range are included in the report if you choose to include pledge payments in the gift types.

Example

For an e
xample, let's consider a the Gift Detail and Summary Report and run a new one using default settings. The Cash column includes the defaults of Cash, Pledge Payment - Cash, and MG Pledge Payment - Cash. The only gift type included in the Pledge column is Pledge. And the only gift type in the fourth column is MG Pledge, which is a Matching Gift Pledge. (The Stock/Property column can be disregarded for this example.)

On the General tab, the report is set to use gift dates of 1/1/98 to 2/28/98. We will analyze two constituents' gifts. Franklin Baymann pledged $1,200 on 1/15/98 (inside the date range) to be paid in 12 monthly installments beginning on 1/15/98. Victor Hanson pledged $5,000 on 1/30/97 (outside the date range) to be paid annually beginning on 1/30/97.

Pledge Type: Master
If you choose Master and the original pledge date is out of the report range (as in Victor Hanson's case), the master pledge itself does not appear on the report. However, the cash-payments made during the report's time frame do appear.

If you choose Master and the original pledge date is in the report range (as in Frank Baymann's case), both the master pledge and the cash payments appear on the report. Please note that you have the option to include the full pledge amount or the pledge balance. To include the pledge balance, mark the Use pledge balance checkbox on the Gift Types tab.

If the Use pledge balance checkbox is marked and Frank Baymann's master pledge of $1,200 falls within the report date range, the $1,000 balance and the two $100 pledge payments of cash are included in the report. However, Victor Hanson's $5,000 master pledge is out of the date range, so only his $1,000 pledge payment of cash is included.

If the Use pledge balance checkbox is not marked, Frank Baymann's entire pledge amount is listed in the Pledge column. Again, because Victor Hanson's master pledge is out of the date range, only his pledge payment of cash is included and not the total pledge amount.

Pledge Type: Installment
If
you choose Installment and the original master pledge is out of the report date range, the installment pledges due in the report time frame (paid and unpaid) as well as the cash payments made appear on the report if you include them in the cash column. As with the master pledge type, you can choose between printing the full installment pledge amount or the installment pledge balance.

If you choose Installment and the original master pledge is in the report date range, the individual installments due in the range (paid or unpaid) and the cash payments appear on the report.

When the Use pledge balance checkbox is marked on the Gift Types tab of the report, the Pledge Balance column is empty because each of Frank Baymann's two installment pledges due during the report date range were paid off. Therefore, the installment pledges have a zero balance. Victor Hanson also has an installment balance of zero for the report date range.

When the Use Pledge Balance checkbox is not marked, notice both of Frank Baymann's installment pledges due during the report date range are shown with the full installment amount of $100. Both installment pledges have a date of 1/15/98 because they were established on that date. Victor Hanson's pledge column includes the $1,000 annual installment due in 1998 for his $5,000 pledge.
