Note: Before you proceed with the following instructions, back up the database. If your organization integrates multiple Blackbaud products, refer to the Additional Requirements section of the backup solution.

  1. Create a membership query to pull the membership to which to change the ID.
  2. Click Admin, Import.
  3. Highlight Membership (in the Membership category).
  4. Click New.
  5. On the General tab under What do you want to do?, select Create import file.
  6. Press Include and select the query from step 1. Select Include selected fields in the import file.
  7. Enter the path/filename to be created and ensure the file type is .CSV instead of .IMP
    1. Click the ellipses to the right of the Import File field
    2. Change the Files of Type drop down to All Files (*.*)
    3. Update the File Name field to indicate a file name with a .CSV extension (ie. MembershipChange.csv)
  8. Select Use the Constituent ID and select Delimited.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Leave everything on the File Layout tab set to the default.
  11. Click Next.
  12. On the Fields tab, press Clear Fields in the lower right. Then select the following fields: Constituent ID (ConsID), Membership ID (MembershipID), Membership Import ID (MEImpID)
  13. Click Save, name the import parameters, and click OK.
  14. Click Create Now.
  15. Open the file in Microsoft Excel and copy the values from the ConsID column and paste in the MembershipID column.
  16. Save and close the file. Be sure not to move, rename, or change the file's format.
  17. Return to The Raiser's Edge and click Admin, Import.
  18. Highlight Membership, Membership
  19. Double-click the parameters created in step 13.
  20. On the General tab, select Update existing records, Use the Constituent ID, and Delimited.
  21. Click Next.
  22. On the File Layout tab, review field separators (comma, tab, etc.) until the data appears in lower preview in columns.
  23. Click Next
  24. On the Fields tab, ensure that it is mapped correctly. If not, press Clear Fields in the lower field and then Update Fields to remap the fields.
  25. Click Next.
  26. On Summary tab, specify any final options desired. Then click Import Now to complete the import.

Note: This only works if there is not currently a membership with that ID because the membership ID must be unique.
