The Raiser's Edge automatically encrypts credit card numbers entered in your database, so if someone attempts to access your database through the back end, the credit card data will appear illegible.

Data displayed in the front end, or user interface, depends on the security settings. To set user security for credit card information, follow the steps below.

In versions 7.81 and higher: In Administration, specify the user's access to Personal Information.

In version 7.80.1122, revisions 16 through 51:

  • Log in as Supervisor or a user with supervisor rights

  • In Administration, click Security

  • Open the appropriate security group

  • In the Group Privileges frame, mark Credit Cards and click Options

  • In the Security Options screen, mark the appropriate checkboxes:
    • Credit Card Data Entry:

When marked, this checkbox allows users to enter and view credit cards in Records and Batch, and add credit cards to the database via Import and NetSolutions Import

    • Credit Card Output:

When marked, this checkbox allows users to output credit card numbers in Query, Export, and Reports

For more information on these options, review the Credit Card Security Guide (PDF 30K).

    • Save and close the group
    • Have the user File > Exit and Sign out, then sign back in for the new rights to be in effect

    In versions prior to 7.80.1122.16:
    • Log in as Supervisor or a user with supervisor rights

    • In Administration, click Security

    • Open the appropriate security group

    • Under Group Privileges, select Records and click Options

      • Mark the Credit Card checkbox to allow users to view and enter the credit card information in the program
      • Click OK
      • Save and close the group
      • Have the user File > Exit and Sign out, then sign back in for the new rights to be in effect

Note: Users without rights to credit card information will have limited access to saved reports, queries, exports, and batches that contain credit card information, will not see credit card related fields in report, query, export, and import parameters, and will have limited access to functions in other modules. For detailed information on how these settings affect users, refer to How are users without rights to credit card information affected.
