Note : Incorrect changes to registry settings can cause serious system problems that may be irreversible without reinstallation of the operating system. You must back up your registry before making any registry changes. We are not responsible for damage resulting from incorrect use of the Registry Editor.
Try each of the following steps in order until the issue is resolved:

  1. If establishing the connection between The Raiser's Edge and General Ledger for the first time, verify the user logged in is a local administrator in order to create the connection.
  2. Verify The Financial Edge database SQL Server instance is running on the server.
  3. Verify The Financial Edge software is installed on the same workstation as The Raiser's Edge. Both products must be installed on the same workstation in order for the integration to operate.
  4. Attempt the process logged in as a different user. If it works, recreate the user name and try again.
  5. Remove the integration options and re-add them:
    1. Delete the options selected on the General Ledger screen in Configuration:
      1. In The Raiser's Edge, click Configuration, General Ledger
      2. Remove the current Server name and Database name information
      3. Unmark the Blackbaud General Ledger present checkbox
      4. Exit and Sign Out of The Raiser's Edge
    2. Delete the current RE7_GL DSN:
      1. Open the ODBC Data Source Administrator
      2. Select the System DSN tab
      3. Highlight RE7_GL and click Remove
      4. Click OK. This closes the ODBC Data Source Administrator.
    3. Reconfigure The Raiser's Edge/General Ledger connection parameters
  6. Specify TCP/IP as the protocol:

    1. Open the ODBC Data Source Administrator
    2. Select the System DSN tab
    3. Highlight RE7_GL and click Configure
    4. Click Next
    5. Click Client Configuration
    6. Select the TCP/IP option and click OK
    7. Click Cancel to exit the ODBC Data Source Administrator. The Client Configuration options will be saved.
  7. Modify the Registry permissions to all read permissions to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\RE7_GL key
  8. Check the Registry keys for correct values:
    1. Exit and sign out of The Raisers Edge
    2. Edit the Registry
    3. Go to each of the following registry keys and verify the information described below is correct. If the String Value does not exist, create it.
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blackbaud\REINI_1\General\
The String Value DSN_GL should have a value of RE7_GL
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources
The String Value RE7_GL should have the value SQL Server
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\RE7_GL
Verify the Server (SQL Server instance name) and Database (database name) are correct. Refer to How to find the SQL Server Database and Server name (BB104235) for instructions.
    4. Exit the Registry
    5. Log into The Raiser's Edge and attempt to post again
  9. Export the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\RE7_GL key from a workstation not experiencing the issue and import it into the problem workstation
  10. Grant local user permissions to the registry keys from step 8
