On the General tab of an academic year record in Configuration, Academic Years, you define the attendance tracking method for the academic year (by Day only or by Class or Day)

You must select to track attendance by Day only in order for the Business Rule to take effect whether faculty can enter day attendance in homeroom or a class meeting at a specific time
 

To take Day attendance by Homeroom
  1. In Configuration, Business Rules, Attendance, set the following business rule to homeroom: If entering day attendance, require users to indicate "attendance taken" when taking attendance by

  2. Only the faculty/staff member listed as the homeroom teacher for the school/academic year on a student's Student Progression Entry can enter attendance for the student in Faculty Access for the Web

  3. The faculty member enters day attendance for his homeroom students in Faculty Access for the Web by selecting the Homeroom option in the Class field on the Attendance page

  4. In Faculty Access for the Web, a non-homeroom teacher can view daily attendance entries for students in his classes, but he cannot add or edit entries 

     
To take Day Attendance by Class Meeting Time
Take day attendance by class meeting time if you have a specific time you take attendance. For example, the teacher with a class at 9 a.m. takes attendance for the day. To use this method, students do not need a homeroom teacher on their Student Progression Entries.
  1. In Configuration, Business Rules, Attendance, set the following business rule to class: If entering day attendance, require users to indicate "attendance taken" when taking attendance by. In the adjacent field, enter a meeting time

  2. Only the teacher with the class that meets during the specified time can enter attendance in Faculty Access for the Web
  3. Teachers for classes that do not meet during the specified time can view daily attendance entries for students in their classes, but cannot add or edit entries in Faculty Access for the Web
