How corporate donations are handled in NetCommunity:
  • A corporate donation comes in from an individual, and must be linked to an individual as well as an organization
  • The constituent record with the primary business relationship is created after processing the transaction in the plugin.
  • The donation will be placed on the donating organization's constituent record, and a relationship will be created between the contact's constituent record and the organization's constituent record.
  • This individual visited the website to be the primary contact for that company when giving to your organization.
  • Once they are established as the primary contact, they can login and be given rights to update that company’s information including primary contact information and addresses.
  • The individual logs in and navigate to a Profile Form and update their company's corporate information. The primary contact for the organization (individual record created with primary business relationship), has the ability to update a Profile Form setup with organization information.
How to process corporate donations in the plugin:
  1. In the NetCommunity plugin, click "Donations" and access the gift.
  2. In the "Constituent Linking" section, link the record to the constituent who submitted the donation on behalf of the organization. If the constituent does not exist in your database, create a new record instead.
  3. In the "Organization Linking" section, link the record to the organization on whose behalf the donation was submitted. If the organization does not exist in your database, create a new record instead.
  4. Process the transaction as you normally would.
  5. The donation will be placed on the donating organization's constituent record, and a relationship will be created between the contact's constituent record and the organization's constituent record.
Alternative solution:

If you have a lot of corporate donations, you could set up a corporate donation form with custom attributes to handle the billing information. This will create a manual entry on the Raiser's Edge side to get that info into the Primary Business Relationship record that the donation will create to that individual donor record. You'd have 2 different donation forms (one for regular donations and one for corporate donations).

Any individual filling out the donation form will need to login and be given rights to update their profile. The individual would login and navigate to their Profile Form (after their corporate donation is processed/committed) and update their company's corporate information. Once again, the primary contact for the organization (individual record created with primary business relationship), will have the ability to update a Profile Form setup with organization information.
