A constituent query is only needed for AddressFinder when:

  • You want to submit addresses for only specific constituents. For example, you do not want to include deceased, do not contact, etc.

  • The number of constituents in your database is more than the number of records your organization purchased to screen. If you are unsure of the number of records your organization purchased to screen, contact our Maintenance team. (BB50606)

If you need to limit the records submitted, here is sample criteria to use in your query. You will want to update it based on your needs.

Addresses, Preferred Address, Preferred Address Line 1 not blank

AND Addresses, Preferred Address, Preferred Country equals United States

AND Constituent Information, Deceased equals No

AND Solicit Code, Solicit Code Description not one of [codes for do not contact, do not mail]

Note: For versions 7.5 to 7.71, refer to How to remove exceptions from the AddressFinder export file prior to submitting to Blackbaud  (BB212763) for steps on removing addresses that could not be screened by AddressFinder. In version 7.8, the export already excludes these addresses as exceptions (BB281132). If these exceptions should be included (in any version), clean up the addresses before submitting them. For example, addresses with three address lines are exceptions. To find them, create a constituent query (BB19082); on the Criteria tab, select Addresses, Preferred Address, Preferred Address Line 3 not blank. Then manually update them to two address lines.
