PRE-CHECKLIST:

Follow these steps to install The Financial Edge:

  1. Download the Latest Release
    Download the latest release to the server or standalone workstation. If you have a CD, then proceed to step 3.
     
  2. Extract the Installation Package
    1. Double click the downloaded executable file
    2. Click Browse to select a directory to extract the installation to.  We recommend selecting your Desktop so that the Install folder is easy to find
    3. Click Unzip
    4. Once the extraction is complete, click Close
       
  3. Install or Update The Financial Edge
    Ensure you have local administrator rights to the server or standalone workstation. Double-click the setup.exe file located in the extracted folder (typically called 'Install') to start the installation wizard, and then follow the prompts. (If using a CD, place it in the CD-ROM drive, and the installation wizard automatically opens.) We recommend accepting the default locations for the program files and Deploy folder. The Deploy folder is created for network installations only.
     
  4. Attach or Create the Database (skip this step if you are just upgrading)  
    • Open the Blackbaud Management Console and select the appropriate option:
      • Attach an existing database: Use this option if you are:
        • Installing a new server or standalone and already have a Financial Edge database
        • Converting from another software program and we are performing the conversion for you. We will send you the database file when the conversion is complete.
      • Create a new database. Use this option if you are installing a new server or standalone and you don't have an existing Financial Edge database.
         
  5. Download and install the latest patch.
     
  6. Log into The Financial Edge on the server to run database revisions.   NOTE:  If using an operating system that has User Account Control (UAC) enabled (i.e., Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012), then right-click on The Financial Edge shortcut and select "Run as administrator" the first time you attempt to log in after the installation/update.   For more information, see the Installation Article for those systems.  
    NOTE:  Make sure you have a backup of your database before running the database revisions.
  7. Share the Deploy folder
    The Deploy folder is installed by default to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackbaud\The Financial Edge\Deploy\ (64-bit operating systems); or
    C:\Program Files\Blackbaud\The Financial Edge\Deploy\ (32-bit operating systems)
    Note: Skip this step if you are installing a standalone environment or updating an existing installation. 
     
  8. Install or Update the Workstations (Network Version only) by running Setup.exe from the shared Deploy folder on the server.
    NOTE:  If using an operating system that has User Account Control (UAC) enabled (i.e., Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8), then right-click on The Financial Edge shortcut and select "Run as administrator" the first time you attempt to log in after the installation/updateFor more information, see the Installation Article for those systems.
  1. Verify Scheduled Database Maintenance       
  2. Update Other Components as Applicable  
  3. Perform database maintenance. This is recommended after applying an update.
