Scheduled and manual Blackbaud Management Console maintenance tasks fail

This solution explains the steps to take when a scheduled or manual Blackbaud Management Console maintenance task fails.

Try each of the following steps, in order, at the database server until the issue is resolved:

  1. Start the Task Schedule service and ensure that it is set to start Automatically.
  2. Re-run the backup or maintenance.
  3. Detach the database.
  4. Open Windows Explore and navigate to the directory where the Blackbaud Management Console is installed (by default, C:\Program Files\Blackbaud\Management Console) and remove any CMD files for the program database (i.e. RE7_Manualbackup.CMD for RE7 or EE_Backup.CMD for EE).
  5. If using SQL Express, delete the scheduled tasks.
  6. Re-attach the database with a different name than it was previously attached with.
  7. Re-run the backup or maintenance.
  8. Double-click the .CMD file created in the Management Console folder (i.e. RE7_Manualbackup.CMD, DB_Task.CMD).
  9. Open the Windows Tasks folder (default location: C:\Windows\Tasks) and delete any listed Scheduled Blackbaud Management Console Backups.
  10. Schedule the task using Windows Task Scheduler.
